Homes And Vehicles Destroyed By Fire
Area fire departments had a very busy Thursday afternoon when flames threatened and destroyed property in north Kingman.
Three homes, an outbuilding and ten vehicles were destroyed by a fire reported at 2:30 p.m.
Assistant Kingman Fire Chief Keith Eaton said 109-degree temperatures made it more difficult and dangerous to try to prevent fire spread from a large lot in the 3900 block of Northfield Avenue.
``Because of the extremely heavy fire loads within the structures and property, the fire spread to other structures on adjacent properties," Eaton said. ``Command struck a third alarm to provide manpower to help the already-taxed, on-scene firefighters.
Personnel and equipment from Bullhead City, Mohave Valley, Lake Havasu City, Desert Hills, Pinion Pines, Yucca, Golden Valley, Northern Arizona Consolidated and Kingman fire departments and districts provided support and assistance during the blaze battle. ``Almost 40 fire personnel and chief officers from the area were involved throughout the incident," Eaton said. No civilians or public safety officials were injured during the ordeal. The American Red Cross was working to assist 3 people who were displaced by the fire. ``American Medical Response provided two ambulances to cool and treat firefighters keeping them from heat exhaustion using cooling techniques including IV treatment," Eaton said. ``We cannot thank the area's medical and fire agencies enough for helping as they did." Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
